Since its inception, Cubase has been Steinberg’s flagship sequencer. The new Cubase Pro 9 represents the cutting edge of digital audio workstation technology. With a new lower price point, Pro 9 is a more attractive proposition for new users, while still offering plenty of features and options for the seasoned professional.
The first thing you’ll notice about Pro 9 is the updated interface. It’s been given a more modern look, with a dark color scheme that’s easier on the eyes. The transport controls have been moved to the top of the main window, making them more accessible. The mixer section has also been redesigned, and it’s now possible to collapse it down to a smaller size when you’re not using it.
One of the most significant changes in Pro 9 is the addition of the Sampler Track. This allows you to record and play back samples in real time, making it perfect for those who want to create their own beats or loops. The Sampler Track comes with its own set of sample libraries, but you can also import your own WAV or AIFF files.
Another welcome addition is the Chord Track. This allows you to see and edit chord progressions in the main window, which makes composing music much easier. The Chord Track can be used in conjunction with the new Chord Assistant tool, which gives you suggestions for chords that will sound good with the melody you’re working on.
There are also plenty of other smaller changes and improvements in Pro 9. The score editor has been given an overhaul, and there are now more options for working with MIDI data. The plug-in manager has been redesigned, making it easier to find and manage your effects and instruments. And there are a number of new and improved audio and MIDI effects, including a new EQ module and an updated version of the REVerence convolution reverb.
